WaterSports Rentals

Background:
An independent operator had rented out kayaks and surfboards as a side job for the past 12 years and noticed that his business had been slowing down. He mainly rented to people and families that rented homes at the private beach where he lived. After putting quite a bit of money into getting the business started, he was no longer getting the return that he had experienced when he first started. The client wanted another product in order to increase his revenues.
Goals:
Since kayaks and surfboards were now readily available from a number of other sources in the area, the small business owner wanted to add something new to his rental services that could provide a quick return on his investment at an affordable price.
Solution:
Serena Paddle Sports designed a 10 board package to fit the owner’s small business needs. Consisting of 5 hard tops and 5 soft tops, we recommended the 2 sizes the rental fleet should include to best accommodate all users. Serena provided information on business expansion ideas such as class instruction and SUP demonstrations for clients. With a limited cash flow, a weekly payment plan was designed and the owner saved over $500.00 with his total purchase.
Result:
The small business owner was amazed at how quickly the SUPs paid for themselves and is considering a primary focus on SUP rentals instead of kayaks. The new rentals have proven to be so popular that rental customers want to purchase the SUPs they are trying out and the owner has purchased additional boards and board packages for resale.
